The Council Grove Braves baseball team ended a fantastic season Monday with a 1-0 loss to the Silver Lake Eagles at Trusler Sports Complex.
Although the Braves were eliminated from postseason play with the loss, their 26-2 season record will likely remain one of the top marks in Council Grove baseball history for some time. Area residents will continue talking about the success of this Braves team for years to come.
Council Grove out-hit Silver Lake three to two, but the Braves were unable to push a run across the plate. Bradley Doornbos led Council Grove at the plate with two hits.
Silver Lake scored the game’s only run in the second inning, when Jax Ross doubled to bring in a run.
Reid Buttrey started on the mound for Council Grove and turned in a strong performance. He allowed two hits and one run over seven innings, striking out seven and walking three.
Kipton Kruger started for Silver Lake and allowed three hits and no runs over five innings. He walked two and did not record a strikeout.
Council Grove played error-free defense. Joshua Senne led the Braves defensively with nine chances in the field.
Miles Kibbee and Ross each had one hit for Silver Lake. Ross drove in the Eagles’ lone run and finished 1-for-3. Silver Lake also played without an error, with Dayne Johnson recording five defensive plays.
