The dam road at Council Grove Lake will be barricaded and fully closed beginning the week of June 1 as repaving work mobilizes. Gary Kepley, Deputy OPM-Kansas Area, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District, reported the closure information to the Council Grove Republican.
Kepley said the Corps has been waiting for base work and asphalt since funding for the project was approved in 2024. However, due to inflation, the approved funding will cover only about half of the dam road improvement project.
The Corps is actively seeking additional funding to complete the remaining half of the road work.
Although the contractor has indicated the work could be completed sooner, Kepley said the road could be closed for up to 90 days. That would place the reopening around the end of August.
Motorists should plan for the full closure and use alternate routes while the work is underway.
