Missing Alta Vista woman found safe

(WIBW) - A missing 76-year-old Alta Vista woman was found safe Sunday morning after a statewide silver alert was issued for her.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation issued the alert for Fay Teague, 76, at the request of the Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office.

KBI and the Sheriff’s Office were requesting the public’s help in locating her. She had last been seen around 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, near the 200 block of Grant Street in Alta Vista. Teague was walking her dog, but the dog returned home wet and Teague had not returned.

The Sheriff’s Office announced around 7:45 a.m. Sunday, Teague had been in Morris County, about three to four miles from her home.

(Continued from Page 1) Officials say many volunteers joined the search for Teague, and a Union Pacific worker found her walking south along the tracks.

Teague was found in good condition and was taken to a local hospital for precautionary evaluation and care.

The Sheriff’s Office shared more information about the situation on Facebook.

“I especially want to recognize the mighty community of Alta Vista. When word spread that one of their own was missing, people came together immediately. Neighbors, volunteers, firefighters, deputies, dispatchers, medics, and search teams rallied through the night without hesitation. That kind of small-town heart, grit, and compassion cannot be taught. It simply speaks to the character of the people who live here.”
