Area receives damage from wind but no tornado

Morris County Emergency Management Director Brett Samuels reports that both tornado warnings in Morris County Monday night were radar indicated by the National Weather Service. Storm spotters did not report seeing any funnel clouds.

At this time the National Weather Service is saying the damage Council Grove and Morris County suffered was from straight line winds in excess of 60 mph at times. Preliminary damage assessments found multiple trees down in Council Grove along with large limbs down throughout the county.

Samuels said, “We have had zero reports of structural damage, however if any residents did suffer damage they are encouraged to call Morris County Public Works and let us know so we can report accurate information to the National Weather Service.” He also added that the Morris County Courthouse Basement was utilized by some residents for shelter precautions. Samuels said, The Courthouse basement is the primary emergency shelter for Morris County and if the situation arises and shelter is needed that is the first place to go if sheltering in place is not an option.”
