The Chase County Bulldogs will be well represented at the 2026 State Track and Field Meet after turning in a strong performance at a competitive regional meet in Humboldt.
Coach Derick Budke reported that 12 Bulldogs qualified for state competition, with several personal records recorded during the meet. The Chase County girls finished fourth as a team at the regional, while the boys finished eighth.
The state meet will be held at Cessna Stadium, on the campus of Wichita State University.
Chase County qualifiers include Vonda Danford in the girls javelin and girls shot put; Madelyn Wilson in the girls shot put and girls discus; Lynnae Rains in the girls shot put; Dakota Phillips in the girls 100-meter hurdles; Grace Welsh in the girls discus; Kiya Cahoone and Ava Wilson in the girls long jump; Guthrie Danford in the boys shot put, boys discus and boys 4x100-meter relay; Austin Andersen in the boys 100-meter dash and boys 4x100-meter relay; and Bryson Koch in the boys pole vault and boys 4x100-meter relay.
Also listed for the boys 4x100-meter relay are Josiah Peters, Wyatt Griffin and Brock Nelson.
According to the state meet schedule, the Class 2A boys pole vault is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. Friday. The Class 2A girls javelin is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, followed by the Class 2A boys shot put at 1:15 p.m. and the Class 2A girls discus at 3 p.m. Saturday. Running events for Class 2A begin Friday afternoon with preliminaries. The girls 100-meter hurdles are scheduled for 2:10 p.m. Friday, while the boys 100-meter dash is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and the boys 4x100-meter relay is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
Finals are scheduled for Saturday. The girls 100-meter hurdles final is set for 9:30 a.m., the boys 100-meter dash final is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. and the boys 4x100-meter relay final is scheduled for 3:20 p.m.
The state meet schedule notes that running event sessions may continue ahead of schedule if events are running early, with no schedule adjustments made.
