The Chase County Bulldogs baseball team edged the Marion Warriors 3-2 Thursday in a tightly contested pitching duel, with both teams receiving strong performances on the mound.
Chase County struck first in the opening inning when Noah Green doubled to drive in a run and give the Bulldogs an early 1-0 advantage.
The Bulldogs added another run in the second inning after Caleb Dexter drew a walk with the bases loaded, extending the lead to 2-0.
Marion answered in the top of the third, tying the contest at 2-2 with the help of a Chase County error and a passed ball.
The Bulldogs regained the lead in the bottom of the third inning when Brant Potter singled to bring home what proved to be the game-winning run.
Green earned the victory for Chase County after pitching six innings, allowing four hits and two unearned runs while striking out eight and walking three. Hudson Doty collected the save in relief.
Easton Babcock took the loss for Marion after working six innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits with two strikeouts and four walks.
Potter drove in one run for the Bulldogs while going 1-for-3 at the plate. Green also led Chase County offensively with two hits.
Carson Krause, Kevon Jones, Kadon Mercer and Jameson Looper each recorded one hit for Marion. The Warriors also turned a double play defensively during the contest.
