Council Grove Mustangs 10U earn league title

League Champions, the CG Mustangs, turn their focus to postseason play where they will strive to bring home the tournament championship. The Council Grove Mustangs 1 (Bolton’s) 10U recreation baseball team finished the regular season as Dickinson County Baseball League champions.

The Mustangs placed first among 10 teams in the league, ending the regular season with an 8-1 record. With the finish, Council Grove earned the No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament, which will be held in Chapman.

The Mustangs will open tournament play at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Council Grove was led by strong performances throughout the lineup during the regular season. Team statistical leaders included Brody Jarvis with seven stolen bases; Colton Messer with 12 hits, eight singles, 16 RBIs and 47 strikeouts on the mound; James Mullins with a .889 batting average, .917 on-base percentage and six doubles; Kiptyn Platz with 13 walks; and Waylon Barber with 12 runs scored.

Bender, Blue, Buller, Messer and Mullins each recorded one triple. Bender, Jarvis, Messer and Mullins each hit one home run.
