Dunlap dance ad offers glimpse of 1926 social life A nearly 100-year-old advertisement from the Nov. 23, 1926, edition of the Council Grove Republican offers a small but lively glimpse into Thanksgiving entertainment in Morris County.
The advertisement promoted a “Special Thanksgiving Dance” to be held Thanksgiving night in the City Hall at Dunlap. Music was to be provided by “Perkin’s Seven Piece Orchestra,” and the ad used large, bold lettering to draw attention to the Thursday evening event.
Adding a competitive touch to the gathering, the advertisement announced that a $2.50 gold piece would be given as a prize to the best dancing couple.
