Recent rains may bring an increase in mosquitoes in the area, and one member of the Cottonwood Falls City Council is sharing information about a do-it-yourself mosquito control option.
Councilman Grant Edwards has explored a DIY mosquito control method known as a mosquito bucket, which is designed to help reduce mosquito populations. Edwards is offering materials at no cost to those interested in trying the method. Residents will need to provide their own five-gallon bucket, preferably black, red or orange, but Edwards will provide the remaining supplies needed.
Those interested in learning more may contact Edwards through Facebook or stop by the city office for additional information.
More details about the mosquito bucket initiative and how it works are available at homegrownnationalpark. org/build-mosquito-bucket, on YouTube at “Build a Mosquito Bucket,” and through the Kansas State University publication “Mosquitoes in Kansas.”
