JUNCTION CITY (KAKE) - The Junction City Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own Monday after the line-of-duty death of a beloved K-9 officer.
The department says K9 Police Service Dog (PSD) Vethos died in the line of duty on Monday. Officials have not yet released the circumstances surrounding his death, but say a full investigation has been launched.
“Vethos was more than a working dog,” the department said. “He was a protector, a teammate, and a member of the JCPD family. This loss is felt deeply across our entire department.”
K9 PSD Vethos, a Belgian Malinois, joined the Junction City Police Department in 2024 and served in the Investigations Division alongside his partner.
