The Council Grove Lady Braves saw their postseason run come to an end Wednesday at Hesston, where the Hesston Swathers used a seven- run fourth inning to pull away for an 11-1 regional softball victory.
Council Grove struck first in the top of the first inning when Jessa Elstun grounded out, scoring one run and giving the Lady Braves an early 1-0 lead.
The score remained in Council Grove’s favor until the bottom of the fourth, when Hesston broke through with seven runs on six hits to take control of the game. The biggest swing of the inning came from Elyse Griffin, who hit a three-run home run to center field, giving the Swathers a 7-1 advantage.
Griffin also earned the win in the pitching circle for Hesston. She allowed three hits and one run, none earned, over six innings, striking out seven and walking two.
Aubrey McEuen took the loss for Council Grove. She pitched four innings, allowing 10 runs, seven earned, on eight hits. She struck out four and walked two.
McEuen, Taylon Hendricks and Lilly Wirtz each had one hit for the Lady Braves.
For Hesston, Brenlyn Richmond, Emma Gudeman and Briley Yoder each collected two hits. Griffin led the Swathers with three runs batted in and went 1-for-2 at the plate.
