LETTER TO EDITOR

Mrs. Dunham, I have one question for you: What suddenly made “merit” so important to you?

After decades of Affirmative Action and the last five years of DEI insanity, you now want to play the “merit” card?

We have endured years hearing that merit is white supremacy, math is racist, and the only thing that matters is skin color, gender, or identity checkboxes.

The Kansas Supreme Court selection process is not based on merit. It’s a nine-member commission: five lawyers who are picked by other lawyers, and four non-lawyers appointed by the governor. They make their recommendations to the governor, and the governor then chooses the judges. Sounds more like a backroom deal to me.

If a Republican governor were appointing these justices, would you be defending this “merit” commission? Kelley Judd
