HARVEY COUNTY (KAKE) A driver was killed in a crash with a semi-truck on Highway 50 near Walton on Monday night.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 6 p.m. on eastbound U.S. Highway 50 near North East Lake Road. The patrol says a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 was eastbound when it crossed the centerline for an unknown reason.
A 2024 Peterbilt Semi-trailer was westbound on the highway and attempted to make an evasive maneuver to the right, but was unable to avoid the collision. Both vehicles collided head-on.
The driver of the pickup truck, 49-year-old Gerado Mendoza, of Marion, died at the scene.
The driver of the semi-truck, a 59-year-old Minnesota man, was not injured.
According to the KHP crash log, both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the collision.
