MCH warns public about phone scams

MCH Hospital & Clinics is warning patients and community members to use caution after receiving reports of scam phone calls in the area that may appear to be associated with MCH.

Hospital officials said MCH does not use automated phone calls to request personal information. When an MCH staff member calls a patient, the employee will identify himself or herself by name and explain the reason for the call.

Most calls from MCH are related to routine health care matters, such as updating insurance information, contact information, appointment details or other patient needs. Officials said requests for Social Security numbers over the phone are rare and occur only in limited circumstances.

Anyone who has concerns about whether a call is legitimate is encouraged to hang up and contact MCH directly using a known phone number or one listed on official MCH materials. Staff members can verify whether someone from MCH has attempted to make contact.

Community members are reminded to be cautious when sharing personal or financial information over the phone. If something does not seem right, officials said residents should trust their instincts and verify the call before providing any information.
