The Community Arts Council of Council Grove will present Pinkalicious The Musical this weekend at the Council Grove Junior Senior High School Auditorium.
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday, July 12. Tickets, which are $7, may be purchased at the door or https://community-arts-council- of-council-grove.square.site. The musical is based on the popular Pinkalicious books by Elizabeth Kann and Victoria Kann. The stage production features music by John Gregor and lyrics by John Gregor, Elizabeth Kann and Victoria Kann. The production is presented through special arrangement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide.
The cast is led by Bronwyn Schweger as Pinkalicious, Elmer Yoder as Peter, Alexis Bachura as Alison, Dexter Lingenfelter as Mr. Pinkerton, Emily Hinkson as Mrs. Pinkerton and Anna Bachura as Dr. Wink.
Ensemble members include Keira Anderson, Milah Anderson, Alexis Bachura, Viviana Baldwin, Bridget Blue, Benjamin Blue, Addison Eakin, Harmony Egbert, Quinn Hemmy, Genevieve Iverson, Josephine Iverson, Charlotte Johnson, Viviana Jones, Everly Kelley, Josslyn Rivers, Savannah Rivers, Lane Schweger, Emma-Clair Turner and Wally Yoder.
Arabella Turner is directing the production. Kathy Lamberson is serving as musical director, with Cassie Diebold as choreographer. Other crew members include Samantha Davis, stage manager; Stephen McKnight, producer; Laura White and Evelyn White, props; Mary Yoder, costumes; Stephen McKnight and Aaron Yoder, set; Ayla Schweger, lights; Matthew Calmes, sound; and Daphne Troxell, shifting.
In her director’s note, Turner said she was excited to share Pinkalicious with the community and described the musical as a story about kindness, self-acceptance and the importance of loving ourselves and others. She also noted that the cast and crew have spent the past eight weeks preparing the production.
Turner previously choreographed Seussical Jr. with the Community Arts Council two years ago. She said stepping into the director’s role this summer has been both challenging and rewarding.
Musical numbers in the production include “Pinkatastic,” “Just One More,” “You Get What You Get,” “I Got the Pink Blues,” “The Power of Antioxidants,” “Green Food,” “Pink-A-Boo” and the finale.
The Community Arts Council thanked its donors, including the Oscar and Ina Nystrom Foundation, John E. Trembly Foundation, Bill B Young, Arthur M. and Ethel L. Hylton Trust, Council Grove Area Foundation, Council Grove Public Library, Kansas Department of Commerce, Kansas Art Commission and the City of Council Grove Sales Tax Grant. The play bill also lists Kanvas Dance Company among the donors.
