The Chase County Historical Museum is holding a fundraising quilt raffle, giving supporters an opportunity to help the museum while also entering for a chance to win a handmade piece tied to America’s Bicentennial.

The cross-stitched quilt was donated by Lanae Workman to be used as a fundraiser for the museum. It was made by Lavonne Bocook Workman for America’s Bicentennial in 1976.

The years 1776 and 1976 are embroidered in the bottom corners of the quilt, marking the nation’s founding and its 200th anniversary.

The quilt measures 64 inches by 96 inches and features red, white and blue designs, including an eagle, flowers, stars and other patriotic details. It is currently on display at the Chase County Historical Museum.

Raffle tickets are $2 each. Museum board members will also have the quilt at the fair on Tuesday, July 23, and Thursday, July 30, from approximately 5 to 7 p.m. The drawing will be held July 30. The fundraiser is one more way residents and visitors can support the Chase County Historical Museum and its work to preserve and share the county’s history. Museums depend on community support not only to maintain collections, but also to tell the stories of the families, communities and events that shaped the area. Those who have not subscribed to the Chase County Historical Society quarterly newsletter may be missing out on a treat. The newsletter offers another way to stay connected with the museum and the history it preserves.
