The monthly meeting of the Rainbow Garden Club was held on June 4th at the Chase County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Cottonwood Falls. Club members arrived at 2:00 with an abundance of colorful flowers and greenery. Nursing home resident gathered in the activities room where they created individual flower arrangements with the assistance of club members. Everyone had a good time. Enough arrangements were made for all the residents to have flowers in their room to enjoy.
Following the group activity, the business meeting was held in the library. Kathy Hastings reported that the Yard of the Season committee had selected Connie Baumgardner to receive the spring award. The club sign will be put up next week and photographs will be taken of her beautiful lawn.
Our club has been asked to provide a large flower bouquet to be placed in front of the podium at the Alumni Banquet. Members are encouraged to bring cut flowers and greenery to the high school at 10:00 a.m. on June 27th.
Vicki Thornton passed out information on Dyck Arboretum located at Hesston, Kansas. It is a 29-acre botanical garden that showcases native Kansas plants. Twice a year they host Native Plant Days when they offer native plants for sale to individuals. This fall’s sale will be held September 11-13, 2026 The next regular meeting will be on July 2nd, with Mary Cahoone as hostess.
