Speed enforcement campaign underway in Chase County

The Chase County Sheriff’s Office is reminding motorists to slow down and obey posted speed limits as summer travel increases across Kansas and the Flint Hills.

From July 7-15, deputies will pay special attention to speeding violations as part of the “Speeding Catches Up With You” enforcement campaign. The effort is intended to promote safer travel throughout Chase County and reduce dangerous driving behaviors.

Officials noted that speeding remains one of the leading causes of serious and fatal crashes, but it is also preventable. Speeding reduces a driver’s reaction time, increases stopping distance and can make crashes more severe.

With more travelers on U.S. Highway 50, K-177 and county roads during the summer months, motorists are encouraged to allow extra time, stay focused and drive at a safe, lawful speed.
