Storm brings high winds, damage to Chase County

Chase County Sheriff Jacob Welsh reported that the June 8, 2026, storm that moved through much of the Flint Hills caused damage throughout Chase County, with trees and limbs accounting for much of the reported damage.

Welsh said two large electric transmission lines were snapped during the storm. Officials were told the lines fed power to the City of Florence.

The storm also caused a semi to be blown over at mile marker 333 on U.S. Highway 50 at approximately 11:15 p.m. Monday night.

Welsh also reported that a weather station at Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve recorded a 73-mph wind gust during the storm.
