USD 417 BOE to meet tonight

The USD 417 Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. tonight, in the District Office Board Room, 17 Wood St., Council Grove.

The meeting will begin with the call to order, approval of the agenda and open forum. The board will then hear a Student Success report, including FastBridge screening growth, and review District Site Council feedback. The board also is scheduled to recognize Tracie Schroeder for receiving the KSPE Outstanding Teacher Award.

The consent agenda includes approval of minutes from the May 11, May 26 and June 4 meetings; financial reports and payment of bills totaling $872,754.57; donations and gifts; disposal of district equipment; and acceptance of the Kansas Preschool Pilot grant. Director reports are scheduled from facilities and grounds, transportation, health services, food service and technology. Administrative reports also are scheduled from the district’s building principals, activities director, director of teaching and learning and superintendent.

Discussion items include policy reviews, the 2026-2027 wellness policy, KASB recommended policy changes, personal electronic device and staff online activity communication, code of conduct policy, job (Continued from Page 1) descriptions, board self-evaluation, building needs assessment, building handbook review, building cost analysis and early graduates.

Action items include EMC insurance renewal and a workers compensation change, monthly policy review, charging for breakfast, 2026-2027 school lunch prices, an after-school program fee increase, Switchgrass Construction Advisors and roof repair.

The board also is scheduled to hold executive sessions for personnel and negotiations. Employment considerations will be made for Pam Burnett, CGES nurse; Jacy True, assistant high school volleyball coach; Tracey Oltmanns, substitute teacher; Dustin SanRomani, Coordinator of School Learning, Innovation and Student Opportunity; and Travis Gordon, CGJSHS cook.

Resignations listed are Terry Lif, assistant junior high track coach; Tracey Oltmanns, PHES teacher’s aide/ASP director; and Sarah Cosgrove, high school ELA teacher. Retirements listed are Sheila Hill and Roma Grafel, regular route drivers, with Grafel also listed for the after-practice shuttle. The meeting is scheduled to conclude with Good News by Board of Education members. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for July 13.
