The regular business meeting of the Morris County 4-H Council was held on February 16th, at 6:30pm at the Council Grove Fairgrounds. The meeting was called to order by President Haylee Nielsen followed by the council reciting the Pledge of Allegiance the 4-H pledge.
I want to thank the “Bridge Brigade” for bringing attention last Sunday to the way that the Kansas Supreme Court justices are currently appointed by the Governor. The August 4 election proposes a constitutional amendment that would change the appointment system to an elections system.

The Kaw Nation will present its 2026 Washunga Days Powwow Friday and Saturday, June 19 and 20, at Allegawaho Park, 1645 S. 525 Road, near Council Grove.
The Manhattan Mercury has named Council Grove junior Reid Buttrey as the Spring All-Flint Hills Male Athlete of the Year. The weekly newspaper reported that Buttrey helped lead the Braves to the 3A state baseball tournament for the first time since 2016.
The Council Grove Republican has learned that Council Grove city attorneys Brian Henderson and Molly Priest have resigned, effective at the end of June. City Council President Jason Booker confirmed the resignations and said Mayor Ryan McDonald will appoint a new city attorney. The matter is not listed on the agenda for Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
What began as a Washunga Days fishing derby has grown into a hands-on outdoor experience designed to introduce youth and families to fishing, wildlife and other outdoor activities. The fishing derby and outdoor education stations will be open from 10 a.m.
The Morris County Commissioner meeting was called to order on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026, at 9 a.m. Commissioners Jim Barber, David Fox and Wayne Kohler were present. Chelsey Schmidt, County Clerk, and Bill Kassebaum, County Counselor, were present.
