(Submitted by Ken McClintock) Council Grove Junior/Senior High School was named in 1918 as Wilson High School, after then-President Woodrow Wilson. It later became Council Grove High School. When the author attended, it was Council Grove Rural High School. Under USD 417, it again became Council Grove High School, until the addition of 7th and 8th grades.
The second annual Food and Forum Picnic Potluck will be held Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the home of Ed and Marta Howe, 23224 Wildcat Hollow Road, Eskridge. The event is planned as an opportunity for residents to gather in the spirit of community, share a meal and hear from informed speakers on topics important to rural communities in northeast Kansas.
USD 417 Board of Education President Terry Powell said Thursday that the board is listening and “recalibrating” after the district’s March 3 bond proposal failed. Powell spoke during a special board meeting called to present results from community bond surveys conducted after the election.
