The Chase County Commission met Tuesday, June 30, at the Chase County Courthouse in Cottonwood Falls, with Commissioners Tony Hazleton, Matt Miller and Gene Line present. County Clerk Connie Pretzer also attended.

Connie Baumgardner and her husband Boyce moved to Cottonwood Falls in March of 2009. The yard was their main focus as curb appeal was extremely important to Boyce and they both loved beautiful surroundings.

Annabelle Arndt has been named Operations Manager at Pioneer Bluffs, working closely with Executive Director John Rogler and Donor Relations Director Lynn Smith. Raised in the countryside of Lyon County, Annabelle brings a deep appreciation for rural communities and the traditions that have shaped the Flint Hills region.

June 22nd EMS and deputy responded to Cottonwood Falls for a general medical call, no transport; Deputy responded to KS Hwy 177 in Cottonwood Falls for a motorist assist; Deputy responded to US Hwy 50 in Strong City for a report of 5 cows out. June 23rd EMS and deputy responded to Strong City for a report of a fall, patient was transported to Newmans; EMS and deputy responded to Elmdale for a lift assist, non transport.

Improvements have begun on a new Chase County veterans project aimed at restoring a historic native limestone barn in Cottonwood Falls’ Swope Park. The barn is all that remains of Chase County’s cavalry unit.

The Wabaunsee County Museum has received $1,000 in grant funding from Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area. The award will help the purchased brochure display racks.

WICHITA (JC POST) – Colin Burke, a student at Salina South Middle School, won the Kansas State Finals of the National Civics Bee on Saturday, June 27, earning the opportunity to represent Kansas at the National Civics Bee in Washington, D.C., this fall. Burke also received a $1,000 prize for his presentation on expanding access to hygiene products in middle schools.
