The Council Grove Republican learned Tuesday that the Commodity Supplemental Food Program will not hold its monthly food distribution in June. Local co-facilitator Rick Haug said it appears the State of Kansas is making changes to some aspects of the program.

The Highway Classic Rock & Country Band will be the opening act for the Saturday, June 20, Washunga Days evening concert at the Neosho Riverwalk Amphitheater. The band is scheduled to take the stage at 6 p.m.

Washunga Days will bring two days of activities to Council Grove, on Friday and Saturday, June 19 and 20, with nearly all events free for residents and visitors. The celebration will begin Friday night with a street dance on North Neosho Street, just off Main Street.

Chase County Sheriff Jacob Welsh reported that the June 8, 2026, storm that moved through much of the Flint Hills caused damage throughout Chase County, with trees and limbs accounting for much of the reported damage.

Neighbors far and wide are encouraged to mark their calendars now for a summer lineup of Chase County events planned in June and July. Upcoming events include the River Suite Dinner and Music on the Bridge at 6 p.m.

Chase County Commissioners heard several budget and appropriation requests Monday, June 8, before turning to a lengthy Road and Bridge discussion that included Middle Creek Road, Lake Road and possible future ditch-cleaning needs.
